Bible Reading in 2010

Genesis is the book of beginnings. January is a month for new beginnings. As the Spirit broods over your life what creative act is God about to perform?

Dear friend, I believe God is about to do great things in your life. John opens his Gospel by saying, "In the beginning was the Word..." Every real move of God starts with a Word from God. Why not begin 2010 with a fresh commitment to finding out what God has to say through His Word.

A recent Gallup poll found that only 16 percent of Americans read their Bibles daily. Today I'd like to inspire you to become part of an elite group of people that makes up a much smaller percentile of the the populace. Why not be among those who read and daily ask the question, "How does the meaning of this text apply to me?"

Our eye should be upon Jesus. If the Bible is not a tool for becoming like Him then we're using a rocket launcher for a paperweight. Lets commit to the rewarding work of applying the scripture in our lives.

James said, "...be doers of the word, and not hearers only." Ezekial wrote, "So they come to you as people do, they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they do not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their hearts pursue their own gain."

Oswald Chambers said, "One step forward in obedience is worth years of study about it." I would say, "one verse applied is worth a thousand memorized."

John Blanchard put it like this, "There is more to Christian growth than knowing what the Bible says; nobody is ever nourished by memorizing menus."

D. L. Moody said, "Our great problem is the problem of trafficking in unlived truth. We try to communicate what we've never experienced in our own lives.

Are you planning to start a Bible reading program for the new year? If you are then remember to let the Word live in you. Let the Word change you. Give the world a living demonstration of true religion not just a definition of it.

A Righteous Perspective

Isaiah 54:17 says, "No weapon formed against you shall prosper,..." We typically picture this with the church in a defensive posture. However, weapons are not just used against fortifications and heavily defended, dug in, troops. Weapons are also used against advancing forces. When we hear, "No weapon formed against you..." our minds react as if someone has just raised a sword or pulled a gun on us. Hands flying up. Defense. We are predisposed to see this in a certain way. Our bias clouds our minds to other possibilities. This is the confidence that I have. The reason the enemy is trying what seems like new weapons and tactics, is because he knows something is up in the church. We are about to see the greatest victories and triumphs the church has ever experienced. Get ready to subdue kingdoms! Walking

Simple insight: Children learn to walk because they instinctively know it's there destiny and they never quit trying. They fail miserably and painfully hundreds of times. How many of our goals would be achieved if we understood the power of persistent pursuit of a God given destiny?
